BTeV Membership Policy
BTeV is interested in the broadest participation by physicists motivated to
study heavy quark physics and able to contribute significantly to the work
of the collaboration.
Process of Becoming a BTeV Collaborator
The process of becoming a BTeV collaborator involves discussions with
the BTeV Membership Committee, recommendation by them to the Executive
Committee, and acceptance by the collaboration.
Statement About Planned Participation
Each group or faculty-level candidate for membership shall provide a list
of:
- Detector/software/physics areas where they plan to contribute.
- Other research commitments (including approximate fractional time
commitment vs year).
- Students and non-faculty researchers anticipated as part of group.
- Source and approximate level of support for the group's effort.
Membership Committee Stage
Candidates shall work with the Membership Committee and the spokespersons
to prepare the above lists, encouraging participation in areas where the
existing efforts need the most added support.
The Membership Committee shall inform the full collaboration about the
interest of faculty-level researchers interested in membership in BTeV,
calling for comment from the existing BTeV collaboration.
Following receipt of the above information, the Membership Committee shall
propose new collaborators to the Executive Committee when at least 2/3 of
the Committee feels that the new collaborators will contribute to the
success of BTeV.
Executive Committee Stage
The Executive Committee shall review the information provided by the
Membership Committee.
Whenever 2/3 of the Executive Committee feels that the new collaborators
will contribute to the success of BTeV, it shall authorize the call for an
e-mail vote by the collaboration.
Collaboration Acceptance
After authorization by the Executive Committee, the prospective new
members shall present their proposal for admission to the BTeV
collaboration at a collaboration meeting.
After the presentation, the chairperson of the Membership Committee shall
call for an e-mail vote by the full collaboration.
Two weeks shall be allowed for e-mail response, and the results shall be
counted by the chairperson of the Membership Committee and announced to the
full collaboration by e-mail.
A 2/3 majority of the collaborators voting shall be required to accept new
collaborators.
Applicability of Formal Acceptance
Admission requirements apply only to university faculty members and
laboratory staff members of the "equivalent rank" of assitant professor
and above.
Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students associated with existing
collaboration members can become BTeV members by having their principal
investigators inform the spokespersons and the Membership Committee
chairperson.
